New Orleans
Portland

[PORTLAND] — The Portland Trail Blazers played host to the New Orleans Pelicans last night and Blazers fans will wish that they could have another crack at this one. The narrow 100-103 defeat was and still is a tough one to swallow. The loss bumps Portland's record down to 41-41 on the season, while the victory gives New Orleans a 34-48 total on the year. It's not overly surprising that the Trail Blazers would end up losing this one consider they did little to establish themselves as dangerous threats. Perhaps the showing can serve as an essential building block for the team in the days to come.

While there were no historic individual performances to speak of, Noah Vonleh's 12 points, 19 rebounds, 1 assists, 0 blocks and 1 steals in 38 minutes will serve fantasy owners well. Still, one can't be overly enthusastic about the numbers considering that even Vonleh himself would presumably trade the solid figures for a different result on the scoreboard. Needless to say, Portland will take any win they can get their hands on considering where they find themselves in the conference but this just wasn't one of them.

Unable to match Vonleh's numbers, Toney Douglas can rest assured that he bested his rival where it actually counts. Douglas's 22 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists led the Pelicans in the winning effort.

Individual performances aside, if there's one area where the Trail Blazers can improve, it's on the defensive side of the ball. Though Portland wasn't terrible in the ball game, there's no denying that a stricter focus on limiting their opponents could serve them well the next time they collide with a worthy foe.

The loss hurts for the homeside but they'll get their opportunity to regain ground in a pending matchup with the . The Pelicans, meanwhile, will set their sights on a run-in with the .
