Oklahoma City
Minnesota

[MINNESOTA] — The Minnesota Timberwolves played host to the Oklahoma City Thunder last night and Wolves fans will wish that they could have another crack at this one. The narrow 98-100 defeat was and still is a tough one to swallow. The loss bumps Minnesota's record down to 31-50 on the season, while the victory gives Oklahoma City a 47-34 total on the year. It's not overly surprising that the Timberwolves would end up losing this one consider they did little to establish themselves as dangerous threats. Perhaps the showing can serve as an essential building block for the team in the days to come.

While there were no historic individual performances to speak of, Karl-Anthony Towns's 26 points, 12 rebounds, 1 assists, 0 blocks and 1 steals in 40 minutes will serve fantasy owners well. Still, one can't be overly enthusastic about the numbers considering that even Towns himself would presumably trade the solid figures for a different result on the scoreboard. Needless to say, Minnesota will take any win they can get their hands on considering where they find themselves in the conference but this just wasn't one of them.

Also contributing for the slain Wolves was Gorgui Dieng. Dieng's 19 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists did the team well, but not so well as to change the outcome. Perhaps they'll get more support from the rest of their unit in games to come.

Individual performances aside, if there's one area where the Timberwolves can improve, it's on the defensive side of the ball. Though Minnesota wasn't terrible in the ball game, there's no denying that a stricter focus on limiting their opponents could serve them well the next time they collide with a worthy foe.

The loss hurts for the homeside but they'll get their opportunity to regain ground in a pending matchup with the Houston Rockets. The Thunder, meanwhile, will set their sights on a run-in with the Denver Nuggets.
