[SAN ANTONIO] — The San Antonio Spurs played host to the Los Angeles Lakers last night but couldn't manage to leave much of an impact, failing to keep up with their visiting rivals and eventually succumbing in a 95-102 defeat. The loss bumps San Antonio's record down to 60-18 on the season, while the victory gives Los Angeles a 23-55 total on the year. Disappointing from the opening tip, the Spurs did little to convince anyone that they deserved anything more than a big fat L in this one. Suffice it to say, they'll have plenty to talk about over the next few days.
While there were no historic individual performances to speak of, Larry Nance Jr.'s 15 points, 9 rebounds, 0 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steals in 21 minutes will serve fantasy owners well. Most importantly, the Lakers managed to prevail where it mattered most and will happily add another victory to their season total. So long as Nance Jr. keeps producing at this rate and Los Angeles keeps winning ball games, everybody - from fantasy owners to the team coaching and executive staff - will be more than satisfied.
In addition to the contributions from Nance Jr., the Lakers also benefited from a big night out of Tyler Ennis. With 19 points, 0 rebounds and 6 assists, Ennis did an admirable job helping guide his club to a much needed road victory.
Individual performances aside, if there's one area where the Spurs can improve, it's on the defensive side of the ball. Though San Antonio wasn't terrible in the ball game, there's no denying that a stricter focus on limiting their opponents could serve them well the next time they collide with a worthy foe.
The loss hurts for the homeside but they'll get their opportunity to regain ground in a pending matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies. The Lakers, meanwhile, will set their sights on a run-in with the .
