New Orleans

[NEW ORLEANS] — The New Orleans Pelicans played host to the Denver Nuggets last night and Pellies fans will wish that they could have another crack at this one. The narrow 131-134 defeat was and still is a tough one to swallow. The loss bumps New Orleans's record down to 33-45 on the season, while the victory gives Denver a 37-40 total on the year. Though the loss stings nonetheless, Pelicans fans can take solace in the fact that the club's offensive output was above and beyond what the team has displayed so far this season. It may not help come playoff time, but there are worse things than being outplayed by a solid opponent.

Team results aside, a monster night from DeMarcus Cousins is all that fans will be talking about as they process the contest. Cousins pumped out a stat line of 30 points, 14 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steals in 36 minutes on the night, quantifiable proof of his place among the top tier of NBA players. Still, one can't be overly enthusastic about the numbers considering that even Cousins himself would presumably trade the solid figures for a different result on the scoreboard. Needless to say, New Orleans will take any win they can get their hands on considering where they find themselves in the conference but this just wasn't one of them.

Also contributing for the slain Pellies was Anthony Davis. Davis's 41 points, 5 rebounds and 0 assists did the team well, but not so well as to change the outcome. Perhaps they'll get more support from the rest of their unit in games to come.

The Pelicans didn't end up walking away with a positive result in this one, but that doesn't mean that there isn't still a silver lining for the ball club. Impressively, New Orleans held the Nuggets to well below their typical offensive output, a testament to the home squad's ability to get things done on the defensive end. If they can maintain this sort of discipline, the wins will follow.

The loss hurts for the homeside but they'll get their opportunity to regain ground in a pending matchup with the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets, meanwhile, will set their sights on a run-in with the Houston Rockets.
