[MIAMI] — The Miami Heat played host to the Denver Nuggets last night and Heat fans will wish that they could have another crack at this one. The narrow 113-116 defeat was and still is a tough one to swallow. The loss bumps Miami's record down to 37-40 on the season, while the victory gives Denver a 36-40 total on the year. It's not overly surprising that the Heat would end up losing this one consider they did little to establish themselves as dangerous threats. Perhaps the showing can serve as an essential building block for the team in the days to come.

On this night it was Nikola Jokic leading the show from a statistical perspective. His 19 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 0 blocks and 2 steals in 35 minutes topped all players in terms of general production. Most importantly, the Nuggets managed to prevail where it mattered most and will happily add another victory to their season total. So long as Jokic keeps producing at this rate and Denver keeps winning ball games, everybody - from fantasy owners to the team coaching and executive staff - will be more than satisfied.

Though Miami didn't end up getting it done when it mattered most, Hassan Whiteside did walk away with the small consolation of an attractive 16 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists. Whether another bright individual performance can help them get the result they want on the scoreboard next time, however, remains to be seen.

It's game like this where it's clear that they can't all be victories. Though the Heat would come out of this one empty handed they can rest assured that they did their jobs on the defensive end. Should Miami maintain their defensive fortitude, it's likely that they'll find their way back into the win column soon enough.

The loss hurts for the homeside but they'll get their opportunity to regain ground in a pending matchup with the . The Nuggets, meanwhile, will set their sights on a run-in with the .
