Brooklyn
Orlando

[ORLANDO] — The Orlando Magic played host to the Brooklyn Nets last night but couldn't manage to leave much of an impact, failing to keep up with their visiting rivals and eventually succumbing in a 111-121 defeat. The loss bumps Orlando's record down to 27-50 on the season, while the victory gives Brooklyn a 17-59 total on the year. It's not overly surprising that the Magic would end up losing this one consider they did little to establish themselves as dangerous threats. Perhaps the showing can serve as an essential building block for the team in the days to come.

An impressive performance from Aaron Gordon led all players in the contest and his 22 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 0 blocks and 2 steals in 35 minutes will make many-a-fantasy owner proud. Still, one can't be overly enthusastic about the numbers considering that even Gordon himself would presumably trade the solid figures for a different result on the scoreboard. Needless to say, Orlando will take any win they can get their hands on considering where they find themselves in the conference but this just wasn't one of them.

Also contributing for the slain Magic was Elfrid Payton. Payton's 20 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists did the team well, but not so well as to change the outcome. Perhaps they'll get more support from the rest of their unit in games to come.

It's game like this where it's clear that they can't all be victories. Though the Magic would come out of this one empty handed they can rest assured that they did their jobs on the defensive end. Should Orlando maintain their defensive fortitude, it's likely that they'll find their way back into the win column soon enough.

The loss hurts for the homeside but they'll get their opportunity to regain ground in a pending matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Nets, meanwhile, will set their sights on a run-in with the Orlando Magic.
