San Antonio
Oklahoma City

[OKLAHOMA CITY] — The Oklahoma City Thunder played host to the San Antonio Spurs last night and Thunder fans will wish that they could have another crack at this one. The narrow 95-100 defeat was and still is a tough one to swallow. The loss bumps Oklahoma City's record down to 43-32 on the season, while the victory gives San Antonio a 58-17 total on the year. Disappointing from the opening tip, the Thunder did little to convince anyone that they deserved anything more than a big fat L in this one. Suffice it to say, they'll have plenty to talk about over the next few days.

An impressive performance from Russell Westbrook led all players in the contest and his 32 points, 15 rebounds, 12 assists, 0 blocks and 0 steals in 37 minutes will make many-a-fantasy owner proud. Still, one can't be overly enthusastic about the numbers considering that even Westbrook himself would presumably trade the solid figures for a different result on the scoreboard. Needless to say, Oklahoma City will take any win they can get their hands on considering where they find themselves in the conference but this just wasn't one of them.

Unable to match Westbrook's numbers, Kawhi Leonard can rest assured that he bested his rival where it actually counts. Leonard's 28 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists led the Spurs in the winning effort.

At the end of the day, the homeside was beaten down in a performance that they stood little chance of winning. If there's one thing any coach will offer a team coming off of a loss like this one it's that success hinges on a better defensive output. Not only did the Spurs take advantage of Oklahoma City, they managed to put forth an offensive outburst far in excess of their season average. Oklahoma City knows this - as would any other NBA squad in their position, so don't be surprised if the Thunder end up running plenty of laps after this one.

The loss hurts for the homeside but they'll get their opportunity to regain ground in a pending matchup with the Charlotte Hornets. The Spurs, meanwhile, will set their sights on a run-in with the Utah Jazz.
