Los Angeles
San Antonio

[SAN ANTONIO] — The San Antonio Spurs played host to the Los Angeles Lakers last night but didn't exactly treat their visitors with any semblence of dignity or respect. Not only did the Spurs manhandle their beleagured opponents, they embarassed them to the tune of 134-94. The win bumps San Antonio's record up to 31-8 on the season, while the loss drags Los Angeles's down to 15-28. More than just a victory, the performance could serve as a boost for the Spurs. Having scored early and often against their opponents this time out, the club will look to capitalize on their momentum heading into their next contest.

While there were no historic individual performances to speak of, Pau Gasol's 22 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 blocks and 0 steals in 25 minutes will serve fantasy owners well. Ask anybody, however - Gasol included - and the most important part is that the Spurs walked away with the W. Each win adds up over the course of the season with the end goal being far more satisfying than a Tweetable stat line.

Though not quite able to steal the show, Julius Randle did a fine job leading his ultimately unsuccessful Lakers. Randle's 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists were one bright spot for the team that spun out in the matchup.

Perhaps just as significant if not more so than any individual performance, was San Antonio's ability to take the Lakers out of their game. A stellar defensive performance by the Spurs helped insure the victory from the moment the two teams set foot on the court. Should the club continue to excel on both sides of the ball, the rest of the league better start planning accordingly.

Up next for the reeling Spurs will be a date with the Denver Nuggets while the visiting Lakers will look to bounce back in a matchup with the Denver Nuggets.
