New Orleans

[NEW ORLEANS] — The New Orleans Pelicans played host to the Miami Heat last night and the hometown crowd got exactly what they paid for in the form of a hard-fought 91 to 87 Pellies victory. The win bumps New Orleans's record up to 11-21 on the season, while the loss drags Miami's down to 10-21. Despite the victory, the result is somewhat hollow considering the offense that seemed to lack much of the kick it's shown so far this season. The Pelicans will happily take the boost in the win column, but have much work to do if they want to keep padding their portfolio.

Team results aside, a monster night from Anthony Davis is all that fans will be talking about as they process the contest. Davis pumped out a stat line of 28 points, 22 rebounds, 1 assists, 4 blocks and 1 steals in 36 minutes on the night, quantifiable proof of his place among the top tier of NBA players. Ask anybody, however - Davis included - and the most important part is that the Pelicans walked away with the W. Each win adds up over the course of the season with the end goal being far more satisfying than a Tweetable stat line.

Though not quite able to steal the show, Hassan Whiteside did a fine job leading his ultimately unsuccessful Heat. Whiteside's 10 points, 18 rebounds and 2 assists were one bright spot for the team that spun out in the matchup.

New Orleans's offensive contributions were complemented from a decent showing on the defensive end of the ball. While they didn't exactly shut down the visiting Heat, they did limit them to a point total in line with their season average. Not every performance can be a home run, so the Pellies will settle for the upper hand in this one.

Up next for the reeling Pellies will be a date with the Miami Heat while the visiting Heat will look to bounce back in a matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers.
