Golden State
New Orleans

[NEW ORLEANS] — The New Orleans Pelicans played host to the Golden State Warriors last night but couldn't manage to leave much of an impact, failing to keep up with their visiting rivals and eventually succumbing in a 114-122 defeat. The loss bumps New Orleans's record down to 0-2 on the season, while the victory gives Golden State a 1-1 total on the year. Though the loss stings nonetheless, Pelicans fans can take solace in the fact that the club's offensive output was above and beyond what the team has displayed so far this season. It may not help come playoff time, but there are worse things than being outplayed by a solid opponent.

Leading the way in one of the finest individual performances of the season was Anthony Davis. Davis's borderline-historic night of 45 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals in 39 minutes will be remembered as one of the nights he truly displayed why he's held in such regard at the NBA level. Still, one can't be overly enthusastic about the numbers considering that even Davis himself would presumably trade the solid figures for a different result on the scoreboard. Needless to say, New Orleans will take any win they can get their hands on considering where they find themselves in the conference but this just wasn't one of them.

Unable to match Davis's numbers, Kevin Durant can rest assured that he bested his rival where it actually counts. Durant's 30 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists led the Warriors in the winning effort.

It's game like this where it's clear that they can't all be victories. Though the Pelicans would come out of this one empty handed they can rest assured that they did their jobs on the defensive end. Should New Orleans maintain their defensive fortitude, it's likely that they'll find their way back into the win column soon enough.

The loss hurts for the homeside but they'll get their opportunity to regain ground in a pending matchup with the San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors, meanwhile, will set their sights on a run-in with the Phoenix Suns.
